Our Very Own Rom-Com
Hello friends, this is Abby here and today we are going to be doing something really special! I am working with two of my friends to create our very own Netflix rom-com. In this post I will be talking about the plot line of our made up movie, but please check out Lillian's blog and Kristina's blog for more on different parts of this movie. Okay let’s get into the story of this movie!
We open with Madeline (Madi) sitting in the library, studying away, because of course our main girl is nerdy and quirky. Her best friend, Kiara, comes up to her and drags her out of the library for the pep rally. The girls sit on the bleachers and our main love interest, Jake, comes running out (in slow-mo) with the sports ball team that he is the captain of. After the pep rally Kiara and Madi go to get frozen yogurt, along with everyone else in their school apparently, because on their way in they run into Natalie. Natalie used to date Jake and they broke up not too long ago. Natalie hates Madi because in the 3rd grade Madi beat Natalie in the science fair and in Natalie's head ever since then Madi goes out of her way to beat Natalie at everything. So Natalie says a mean comment to the girls and Kiara stands up for them both and they go inside. Then inside the fro-yo place they see their third friend Spencer. Spencer has had a crush on Madi since middle school, and Kiara has a crush on Spencer. So they get fro-yo and talk.
The next day we see Madi in the same history class as her football guy crush person, and the teacher has them both stay after class, and Madi is freaking out because she never gets into trouble. Spencer and Kiara always wait for Madi outside the classroom and they see what's going on and are watching the interaction, and Madi knows of their presence. So the teacher asks Madi if she will tutor Jake because he is failing the class and needs to pass to play sports. Kiara from outside the room encourages Madi to say yes, but Spencer plays it cool, makes up an excuse and leaves. Madi agrees to tutor Jake and they arrange to meet after school. During lunch Madi and Kiara are sitting outside and they talk about their boy problems. Kiara knows Madi likes Jake but Madi denies it for now. Kiara then suggests that she go out with Spencer because he obviously likes her. Madi is shocked because she knows Kiara likes him and agrees to get Spencer to like Kiara instead of her.
After school, Jake meets Madi in the library and they study away. Jake is bored so he suggests they go somewhere else. Madi is very much not okay with this idea because she is shy and stuff. Jake comes up with a fun idea, for every study session they go to a new place. So one day Jake will pick a place, the next day Madi picks a place. So each business day for 2 weeks they will go to a different place to study after school. So now we get a montage of them going to different places, having fun and getting to know each other. Then one Saturday Jake calls Madi and asks if she wants to go study with him at this cute antique looking cafe. Jake’s mom worked at the cafe in high school. At this place, they have a classic moment. They are sitting close to each other and are about to kiss, then someone gets a phone call and ruins it.
At school on Monday, Madi is telling Kiara about it, and Spencer overhears and is sad. Madi follows Spencer and talks to him about their feelings. Spencer decides he will accept that Madi does not like him and begins thinking about a possible relationship with Kiara.
After school, Madi is going to meet Jake outside the school and she sees him there with Natalie, and they are close to each other, so she is sad and walks away. Jake follows Madi and tries to explain that Natalie tricked him, but Madi won’t hear about it. Kiara and Madi are hanging out that night and Madi is sad about Jake, but Kiara is happy because Spencer asked her on a date. So the girls focus on the date instead.
The next Saturday is the homecoming football game, so Jake is the captain of the football team. Before that happens, Jake needs to pass his history test on Friday. Madi hasn’t studied with Jake for the past week because of what happened, so does Jake pass his test without Madi’s help... of course he does! Madi does not expect that he will though, so when she goes to the game with Spencer and Kiara she is shocked to see Jake running out on the field. Jake and Madi make eye contact during the game and Madi leaves early. Jake continues to play the game and ends up winning the game for the team. After the game, Kiara and Madi are getting ready for the homecoming dance and Madi considers not going because she is sad and doesn’t want to be a third wheel for Spencer and Kiara, but Kiara convinces her to go.
At the dance Kiara and Spencer walk in and Madi follows behind them looking fabulous and Jake looks at her from across the room. Spencer and Kiara go dance, so Madi goes to get a drink, Natalie happens to be nearby and is mean to Madi. Jake ignores Natalie and goes up to Madi to ask if they can talk. Natalie glares at Madi, so she says no and leaves the ballroom. Jake tells Natalie off and follows Madi out but she keeps walking. Jake asks her to stop and tries to explain, Madi listens but feels stupid for thinking Jake could like-like someone so nerdy and quirky. Jake tells Madi that he actually does like-like her and then they kiss.
Jake says they should go back inside and dance, but Madi has a better idea. They decide to leave the dance and they go back to that cafe and be all cute.
